Are you applying for the Portuguese Golden Visa and need to apostille your documents from the United States?
The Portuguese Golden Visa is a type of residency program offered by the Portuguese government. It allows non-European Union citizens to obtain a residence permit in Portugal by investing in the country’s economy, typically through the purchase of real estate. Once the investment is made and the permit is issued, the individual and their family can live, work, and study in Portugal for a renewable period of five years. After five years, the individual may apply for permanent residency and eventually citizenship.
An apostille is a form of authentication issued to documents for use in countries who are members of the Hague Apostille Convention.
Since February 4, 1969, Portugal has been a member of the Hague Apostille Convention (Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Document). The purpose of the convention is to create a simplified method of “authenticating” documents for universal recognition. An apostille certifies the official who signed your documents (State official, County Clerk, Notary, etc…)
